BLACK AND WHITE CAKES

A cake decorated with color black and white always comes out looking elegant and classy and I personally love the color combination on cakes. I soon found out that not everyone shared my sentiments.

I've heard stories of things that happened when people use these colors for their cakes.

I once recommended these colors for a lady, that I was to make a surprise birthday cake for her husband. She said, she heard (not believe) that some people used these colors for their wedding and the marriage didn't stand the test of time. So she would rather I used different colors. While others just dislike color black, on their cakes for no particular reason.

SUN CAKE

As a parent, never assume you know or should know what your child wants. I say this because of the cake I’m about to show to you.

The child was turning 11 and her mum was thinking she would like a jewelry box cake or a cake with her picture on it, but since we couldn't reach a landing, the mum decided to ask her daughter to pick from the two options we had.

Lo and behold, the child came and painted a completely different picture of what she wanted for her 11^th year birthday. She started by asking if it’s possible to do a sun, I nodded.  She then said she wanted a Sun shining with sky around it. Her mum was speechless and they both turned and looked at me, waiting for my response. I just told them, I will try.

Below is what I came up with.

LIGHTNING McQUEEN CAR CAKE

From what I have seen in the business of cake decoration, the possibilities with cakes are endless (If you don’t mind an amateur like me saying that).

When I got the order for Lightning McQueen cake, I thought to myself, where do I start from? Since my orientation is gradually drifting to anything is possible with cakes, I didn’t fret. I just went out and got myself, a Lightning McQueen toy car. Below is the outcome of my McQueen project.

TOPSY TURVY CAKES

Topsy Turvy Cakes are cakes with whimisical feel. Architecturally, they look very confusing because they look tilted. When I first saw a topsy turvy cake, I was amazed and wondered if I could ever create a cake like that.
I decided to try my hands on it for my birthday cake and lo... ( let me allow you be the judge)

MY BABY'S 1ST YEAR BIRTHDAY CAKES

My baby's one year birthday cakes, is the true test of whether I truly gained a new skill from my cake decoration classes. For her birthday, I decorated two cakes, one (picture above) we took to her creche and the other (picture below) we took to church.

HOW I VENTURED INTO CAKES

The thought of baking and decorating cakes, crossed my mind a couple of months to my baby girl's first birthday. I thought it will be very cool, if i made her first birthday cake myself. So, there and then  i decided to take a cake baking and decoration class . I then signed up for some classes in Netherlands (Was residing there at the time).

The first cake, i made after my classes was a Christmas cake, which I shared with friends and family.I got so much praise from the Christmas cake. One of my friends who was privileged to taste the cake asked me to bake a cake for her baby’s birthday, which was a week away at the time. I was beside myself with joy at her request, because not only will I be practicing my newly acquired skill but  i will be getting paid for it. I accepted the challenge; I called it a challenge because I was a green in the business at the time. At the end of the day, the end product of the challenge is the picture above.
